Maybe it’s that’ I just re-watched 500 Days of Summer and fell in love with it (and Zooey Deschanel’s wardrobe) all over again, but I’m loving vintage these days. Mixing it with contemporary pieces… I just love it. Plus it doesn’t hurt that I love just about everything from every era gone by. (Except maybe the 80’s. I lived through that the first time and somehow it’s just not as fun the second time around. Anyway, I’ve been inspired and I’ve been browsing Etsy, where else, for some seriously amazing pieces that I need to have. I bought a beautiful pair of vintage earrings from Belle’s Booty yesterday. See below. Side note- She’s awesome, and her stuff is great!
I also bought these from Etsy seller Country at Heart.
And these from Vintage Alcove, also on Etsy.
Here are some more of my favorite vintage things on Etsy these days… sigh. Enjoy!
How did it get to be August? Seriously. I have a Westchester Wedding this weekend so I’ll be sure and update you all next week. In the meantime… Happy hump day with today’s WED FAVORITES!
I love this… so delicate and feminine.
LOVE these. I’m a big fan of making your wedding bouquet be more than just “pretty.” Use it to honor a family member, or honor your new life together. These are super sweet and classic. Plus you can just tie them on. Easy- peasy. They’re also featured in the Aug/Sept ’09 issue of Modern Bride.
Love me some froof. You know it. PLUS these have beautiful love notes written on them. Amazing.
That’s all for now… new BEAUTIFUL and AMAZING Real Weddings and Engagement Photos coming up!
Hump Day is here again! And as always here, are my WED Favorites for Wednesday! Happy browsing!
SO Pretty…
These are a must for any groom-to-be . Also available in GREEN, BROWN and GREY.
Plus her great Father of the Bride socks too!
Classic Elegance. I love it.
Hi lovelies!
It’s June. How did it become June? I don’t understand. This year is FLYING by already! Madness. Anyway… here are some of my favorite Etsy finds this week. Happy Hump Day!
Lavish Head Froof from LaurelandMagnolia on Etsy.
Neck Froof from Twigs and Honey by Myra Callan
Custom “Eat, Drink and be Married” Rubber stamps from Crafts by Candice
Engagement Party or Backyard Reception fun with this vintage bowling set from Domestikate
Pretty paper Lanterns from Hannah Nunn on Etsy.
Ok so I’m really not a big jewlery girl, so it takes some seriously unique and fun stuff to get me going. I’m pretty classic. I wear the same stuff every day, HOWEVER… if I were to amp up my accessory world Kate Gray Designs is where I would start, and then I would follow to my old favorites like J.Crew, South Moon Under and Anthropologie. How much do you love these??
So there’s a part of me that really believes that in my past life I was sitting on a piano (Madonna style in Dick Tracy) singing my little heart out with a tumbler of brandy in one hand and a cigarette in the other. I LOVE the elegance and charm that is any and all things vintage. It’s so much more fun and unique than cookie- cutter decorations, and accessories. On this hump day I bring you some of my WED favorite vintage pieces… another good place to shop vintage.. flea markets. Weather permitted… I’m heading there this weekend. Here are some treats to hold you over until then…
FYI- Shoe clips instantly change a pair of shoes and an entire outfit. I adore them, and these are wonderful. Or… make your shoes your something blue.
Oh the ultra preppy, ultra fun and flirty color combo. Perfect for beach side, destination and tropical weddings that embrace the bright colors.
Depending on your details you can substitute traditional wedding dresses with patterned Lilly dresses. I will caution you. Lilly is not a cheap brand. But you get what you pay for, and your bridesmaids… providing they like to pop their collar as much as you do…. will thank you for opting for a dress they WILL actually wear again. If you’re feeling extra sweet offer to pay for your bridesmaid dresses as a thank you for agreeing to make you their priority for the next 8 – 10 months. 🙂
AND… Lilly has a great part of their online shop called “The Little White Dress” which might be a perfect bridal outfit change for a more casual wedding, a rehearsal dinner or an out fit to leave your giant party in. People still do that right? A fun new take on the “honeymoon suit.” Or keep with your own theme and don your own pink and green ensemble fit for traveling to someplace exotic, warm and honey-mooney.
You can always opt for something a little bit more conservative and go with solid colored bridesmaid dresses from David’s Bridal in shades of pink or green with alternating colored flowers. Lime green dresses with bright pink flowers are beautiful! And a pale pink dress with a bouquets of green and white works too! Plus it’s a little less expensive for your ladies in waiting. You can always incorporate the patterned look with “Little Lilly” for your flower girls. They have adorable children’s dresses that are perfect for a preppy wedding.
I know I put this dress up a lot. It’s just so pretty. I can’t help it.
Even the groom and his boys can get in on the action. Brides.com put together this look for a preppy chic wedding.

Always Vineyard Vines Groomsmen ties. Always.

Invitations can go one of two ways too. Pick a solid color and embellish with the other color, or use both in a more complex patterned invite.
Greet your guests with this Pink and Green guest book and pen set from Etsy seller Creative Bridal Solutions.
I’m a big fan of the out of town bachelorette weekend. I’m a bigger fan of brides saying thanks to their bridesmaids as much as possible. Do you really have any idea how much money we are spending on you?? A lot.
To say thank you, fill a monogrammed (obviously) bag from The Palm Gifts with adorable preppy treats like, flip flops from J.Crew or these adorable pink and green checked ones from The Palm Gifts, Notecards from Lilly Pulitzer, and maybe even a silver monogrammed ring or preppy bachelorette coozies from Preppy Monogrammed Gifts. Also just a quick note about J.Crew… if you still have your student discount lying around you can get 15% off in-store (varies) purchases. Definitely worth using.
Seriously. How cute are those glasses!? I am obsessed. I love them. They are from Etsy seller The Preppy Polka Dot. They also have these adorable shot glasses with fun ribbon that would be adorable to carry around for a bachelorette party!
And for further inspiration… courtesy of Vineyard Vines… because they’re awesome. Here are some pink and green wedding parties to rock your world.
I hope you were all a little bit more lucky in life and love today! After all everyone really is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. Make those little green leprechauns hiding in the shadows send some of that luck your way! In honor of my Irish half here are some of my favorite green Etsy items for you brides out there (and I personally know at least one) incorporating lucky and lovely shades of green into your wedding world! Green Weddings! So fun!
A word of caution: Don’t incorporate ALL of these things into your green wedding world. Often…less is more.
This is adorable from Etsy Seller LuckeyU. You can absolutely do this on your own too. A little spanish moss, branch basket and ribbon (local craft store) and you have your very own DIY ring pillow. OR you could just invest in this fabulous one.
No secret I love me some pink and green. But green works well on its own with weddings because it matches all your flowers- more or less- and it’s almost a “neutral” color when used sparingly as an accent color with other neutrals. These super cute polka dot ties from Etsy seller Me and Matilda, would be great with a khaki colored suit. Very casual, very backyard, very good near water. Love them!
Subtlety can go a long way… ditch the bright green bridesmaid dress and opt for shades of green that COMPLIMENT each other. Don’t make me come find you…
Leg Candy… Green Garters go a long way.
And finally and quite obviously… lil bit of Froof…
Picking out jewelry for a wedding is not the most fun thing in the world. In fact, a little guidance from the bride I think, is definitely a good thing. It eliminates the awkward moment the day of that goes like this…
Bride: “Are you wearing those earrings?”
Bridesmaid: “Well… I was planning on it. You said you didn’t care what we wear.”
Bride: “Oh. Ok.” (Inside her head she’s saying, “I lied. I care. You can’t wear those hoochi mama hoops at MY wedding.”
Again, guidance can be a very good thing.
Admittedly, some brides are mum about jewelry until the day of the wedding because they often buy the jewelry for you as a gift. I thought the earrings that the beautiful bridesmaids of wedding #3 wore were really wonderful and looked gorgeous with their mint green dresses. I couldn’t get close enough to snap any pictures, but they looked a little bit like these Elsa Peretti earrings from Tiffanys, ($425) from 25 pews back…
If you don’t get any guidance talk to the other bridesmaids, and devise some kind of plan… no earrings only necklaces. Or absolutely no necklace only earrings. Don’t show up looking like a beach gypsy with a set of tarot cards…choose wisely, and sparingly in some cases.
For those of you in weddings with brides who TRULY don’t care, there are a lot of options out there to pick from.
CLASSIC/TRADITIONAL:
$195- $355
TOTALLY IRREVERENT:
$65 at South Moon Under
$60 at South Moon Under
There is also a a really great blog on InStyle.com called My Jewel Box, where the rich and not so rich come together to share their favorite baubles and bling and the stories behind them.
Even if you can’t afford your own version of Donatella Versace’s Fred Leighton ring, at least you can stare at it, use it as a procrastination tool, or a ridiculous aspirational fantasy at work…there are worse things to daydream about.
InStyle.com also has a designer spotlight section that might better help you and your bride determine the kind of jewelery HER special day will call for. Is it going to be more free-spirit, Kate Hudson hippy fest on the beach which, might call for the bold link-and-chain designs of Ippolita, or a more sophisticated soirée ala Natalie Portman with diamond Art-Deco period pieces from Kwiat.
Just remember use these as inspiration with your bride… don’t scare the living bejesus out of her by sending her an email with a link to the $3,000 pair of earrings you’re hoping she’ll spring for. You might get fired from bridesmaid duty…forever.
Communication is key. Talk to the bride, and the other bridesmaids and figure out what look is best for the day, the bride and the dresses. Happy shopping!
