So there’s a part of me that really believes that in my past life I was sitting on a piano (Madonna style in Dick Tracy) singing my little heart out with a tumbler of brandy in one hand and a cigarette in the other. I LOVE the elegance and charm that is any and all things vintage. It’s so much more fun and unique than  cookie- cutter decorations, and accessories. On this hump day I bring you some of my WED favorite vintage pieces… another good place to shop vintage.. flea markets. Weather permitted… I’m heading there this weekend. Here are some treats to hold you over until then…

Pink and Navy is my ALL-TIME  favorite color combo. It’s elegant, but still flirty and fun and evokes all the style of New England summers on the Cape. So fab.

AND…

Here are some things you can buy right now…

The Pink & Navy Retail King… Vineyard Vines. Seriously have you guys ever checked this place out. EVERYTHING is in this rockin’ color combo and it’s AMAZING. They have great ties for groomsmen, and patterned dresses perfect for bridesmaids. J.Crew is another great option because almost all of their dresses come in pink and navy for mixing and matching or total solidarity.

My friend C just got engaged and she’s weighing her color options. There are so many ideas floating around and to decide on just a few seems so unfair. So in the spirit of my darling friend and all the other brides that are gracing the aisle anytime soon, here is the first in a parade of wedding color inspiration boards to wet your palette and make some decisions already!

First up… Navy, White & Yellow Weddings!

I love yellow, and I really love navy. Navy is a closet staple. It goes with just about everything- orange, yellow, green, pink… the list goes on. But I do really love yellow… especially with navy. It’s classic, yet fun. Lovely.

Ask your florist for extra flowers. If you go with larger cheaper flowers like carnations, spider mums and dahlia’s you’ll be able to use them in bulk or as stand alone flowers to decorate chairs at the reception, in bulk on top of cocktail hour high-tops, or in flower “balls” with ribbon to hang on doors, and entrance ways or decorate the aisle.

I wish I could explain to you how much I LOVE Coren Moore dresses. They are incredible, unique, beautiful and fit just about any kind of wedding you’re planning to throw. I think they’re just wonderful. I could go on and on about them, but check out their custom designs and color combo’s AND check out their wonderful new blog they just launched! So great!

"Just Married" Banner from Ear Mark (Etsy) $14

"Just Married" Banner from Ear Mark (Etsy) $14

I love banners. But not the weird crepe paper versions from ghosts of birthday parties past. No, No. Pretty banners with flags, or paper with modern fonts and sweet stamping. Pretty. Hang it from your Trolley, Over a gift table – or just blowing in the wind near the entrance to cocktail hour.

Navy Blue Ring Bearers Pillow from Emici Bridal (Etsy) $65

Navy Blue Ring Bearers Pillow from Emici Bridal (Etsy) $65

Incorporating prints and patterns into the solid navy blue and yellow color motif lightens it up a little bit and makes it a little more whimsy, a little less “Milautica” (the merging of nautical and military decor… obviously.)

Augusta Peep Toes $225 J.Crew

Augusta Peep Toes $225 J.Crew

Just remember… the style’s in the details. It doesn’t have to take over your reception. Don’t make EVERYTHING yellow and blue. Shades of colors tie nicely together, and leaving white as a staple color throughout brings everything together.

Seriously. Does it get any better? I got this in my e-mail box the other day from Martha, well Darcy Miller, her wedding go-to- girl, and HAD to share this with you. What a great idea! I mean… I could easily get carried away with this. Can you imagine?

Personalized Bridesmaid/Bride/Everyday/Special Occasion Ribbon Shoes! Use narrow or wide ribbon (Solids, patterns, polka dots, gingham, stripes, the world is your oyster) to cover plain sandals. Craft stores like Michael’s and A.C. Moore often have ribbon sales- I got 5 spools for $1 each over the weekend! Or if you’re really looking for the perfect pattern ribbon head to specialty shops like M&J Trimmings in New York.

Here’s what you’ll need:

1. Wide or Narrow ribbon (depending on the shoe)

2. Darning Needle (For shoes with buckles)

3. Fabric Glue

4. SHARP fabric scissors

5. Your favorite plain pumps, heels, wedges or sandals that need a little kick of fun

Lela Rose’s new collection for Payless is a perfect line because they come in lots of different styles that can be customized to look similar… but different for each bridesmaid!

Imagine the possibilities!

If you own a pair of heels… and everyone should own at least one pair, you know that walking on soggy spring grass can completely ruin your shoes. I lost a pair of Nina Ricci’s last summer to a golf course in Maine… trust me. I know the pain of losing shoes.

But heels are heels. And everyone looks better in them. Taller, more confident and more beautiful. But if you’re having an outdoor ceremony or reception on grass… ladies all you’ll be doing is pulling yourself out of the ground while you aerate the lawn.

Opt for flats or wedges instead. There are some cute options out there now too.

If you can’t bear the idea of losing the heels, (I know. I can’t.) invest in Solemates. These little plastic heel coverings come in clear and black and fit perfectly on the bottom of most heels. You can buy them online or at select retail locations around the country (There’s a list on their website).

It’s also not a bad idea to have some on hand for guests too. Put pairs of the Solemates in clear plastic earring bags with ribbons for guests to fit before they hit the grass. They’re reusable and cheaper than buying a new pair of shoes!

You can always switch from flats and wedges to heels for the reception or vice versa. Odds are, if the party is that good… the shoes are going to come off anyway. 🙂

Those of you who know me, KNOW that I love me some froof. Ya know… oversize flower pins, a touch of feather in the hair, big satin flowers on the shoes a la Carrie Bradshaw. I love it. I think it stems from wearing too many bows as a child…Either way, I seriously cannot get enough of it. It’s everywhere this season, from tank tops and headbands to slingbacks and dresses. So go out and make a statement. Whether it’s at the shower, out on the town, or strutting down the aisle… go big or go home.

Etsy is a fabulous place to find all things froof. The stuff out there is so fun! If you’ve never been… you’re missing out. They have Hairpieces, headbands and flowers….

This is so great. This is a 5 satin rosette piece that detaches and can be added to any garmet! How much do you love that! Imagine adding it to the top of a simple little black dress! Not simple anymore… LOVE THIS!

Old Navy had some really great tanks in-store. They’re not available online, but they come in a whole bunch of colors with giant ribbon bows on the top left shoulder. It’s a nice little twist to the household beater.

And then there are Shoes…..

J.crew has these fabulous sandals that I would honestly kill for in every color. And they’re not $300+ like the rest of their shoes.

I love shoes. I really, really do. Shoes make me so happy. I have kind of a large foot which kills my undying desire for vintage pumps, but I still peruse the pages of Etsy on occasion because really it’s great and also because, well sometimes I get lucky. I also really, really love what Nine West has this season. Comfortable, hot shoes with unique patterns that fit and last.
Some of my favorites:

Nine West – Jojus Sandal $23.99 to $79 on Amazon.com

Nine West– Women’ Jym Sandal $55.97 on Amazon.com

Nine West– Juliarae Sandal $23.99 to $79.99 on Amazon.com

These all come in really great color combinations too. Greens & blues, oranges and pink, yellow and red,

Then there’s the ones I just dream about….
